"The diocese has been building more modern properties and selling off the old vicarages and rectories, but I’m sorry to say St Peter’s hasn’t yet had that upgrade.”
“Please don’t apologise,” she murmured, staring up at the Carolinian splendour of St Peter’s Rectory. “Don’t run ahead.” Grabbing her small son’s hand, she smiled at her husband. “We would much rather have an old house than a brand new one.”
“It’s very tired. Run down,” their guide continued, opening the front door with an ornate key straight out of a story book. “It’s been empty for some time.”
