A faerie tale for grown-ups, dark and gothic.
Celtic lore, dark magic, sex, and forbidden love are interwoven with a quest to right an ancient wrong, breaking the bonds of suffocating ritual.
A power struggle between the forces of Good and Evil, but friends and enemies are not always who they seem.
Wicked heroes and gallant villains ensure that there is no simple black and white in any world.
Samina Hart is ten years old when she dreams of a vicious murder at the Summer Solstice sunrise, 1940. Her nightmare brings back monstrous memories for her father, an impetus for him to begin secretly writing in a battered, faded journal of his horrific experiences as a young man.
On her 16th birthday, Samina wakes up to discover her father dead, her world turned upside down. A stranger appears, a previously unknown aunt, promising her a large, loving family. With nothing left of her parents but her long-dead mother’s wedding bangles, and a strange, almost unpleasant relic given to her by her father the night before his death, she leaves her London home and her father’s written work, for a remote manor house overlooking the wildly beautiful Irish Sea.
On the Island, Samina learns of her extended family of beautiful strangers, isolated people who call themselves Kindred. Not fully human, injected with the blood of Witches and Angel Lords from another time, the Kindred have magic, the Goddess religion, laws and legends, and their sometimes-horrifying rituals.
But it is her son, Alexander Kerron-Draeke who is the central character. Deeply flawed, but imbued with magic, fury, love, and fierce loyalty to his people, his birth is a fixed point in time as he has a pivotal role across the worlds to create a future where all mankind is not destined to end in fire and disease by the mid-twenty-first century.
He shares relationships with nursery brothers, parents, lovers, and children to cement his humanity, but it is his bonds to The Last Witch and an Angel’s Daughter that bring both torture and enchantment to his long life.
